1953 MG TD Mk2 sports
If you carried out a survey amongst enthusiasts to establish which straightforward classic British sports car they would most like to own, the MG TD would come out high on the list if not at the top. As the T series evolved it became more comfortable and performance improved. Small changes meant that the car got prettier because it maintained that classic British look which everyone enjoys so much. This car is a rare Mk2 which had improved performance and roadholding by virtue of progressive engine and suspension improvements.
Stripping the car to the chassis is the only way to do the job properly.
The body is ash framed. The sill A and B pillars are shown here. Rot in the timber and loose joints are the main problems and fixing these leads to a real change in the car's character.
Rear view of the body showing the rear wings and external fuel tank prior to fitting up.
The restored body is mounted on the rolling chassis and carefully aligned prior to fitting up and retrimming.
The end result - looking absolutely beautiful. Who wouldn't want to own and drive one of these in this condition? The Mk2 MG TD is a very rare model, having larger valves and carbs, twin fuel pumps and no less that eight shock absorbers!
