How much will it cost to restore my cherished old family car?
Can I spread the cost over time ?
Do you charge for inspections?
How can I get the car to you?
My Triumph TR is pulling to the left. Will I need a new chassis?
Can you fix my overheating engine?
We have a lot of experience of restoring cherished family cars. Althoughh they might not look too bad on the outside they are sometimes very rusty underneath as you can see from some of the photographs on this website. However, we have done so many over the years that we can give you a fairly accurate estimate after a proper inspection.
It is important to budget for ground up restorations because a lot of labour is involved and old parts often have to be replaced with new old stock which can take some effort to track down although one-make car clubs are often very helpful. We will sit down with you and map out an initial plan that suits your budget. It's not unusual to call a halt for a few months while funds are replenished and we are quite used to that.
We don't normally charge for local initial inspections but if they are further afield we may charge for travelling expenses.
If your car is some distance away we will arrange for a specialist transporter but if it is fairly local we can send our trailer. Sometimes cars are sent to us on frames without wheels and we are used to accommodating that as can be seen from some of our picture galleries and workshop articles.
It sounds like you have a suspension problem although old TR series Triumphs have a separate chassis which can flex badly when the rust sets in. We have a lot of experience of making new chassis members and of strengthening the backbone which often rusts very badly. When we have finished you can be sure that the chassis will be better than new and suitably protected from rusting for the foreseeable future.
We often find that owners have fitted a fan to combat overheating but over decades the waterways in the engine block and head get rusted up and the radiator reaches a stage where it becomes virtually useless. The best solution is an engine-out and rebuild but a replacement radiator often goes a long way to remedying the problem until the day when the engine really does need reconditioning.
